How running taught me valuable lessons about pacing and preparation.
When I first began training, I wasn't exactly the picture of a determined athlete. It wasn’t just the running that challenged me — it was the whole idea of training. I was lucky enough to find a group of fellow runners who quickly became friends, each with their own pace and goals . Unlike others, I wasn’t in any rush to finish quickly. Instead, I enjoyed the process of running, though I kept pushing myself to keep up with my gym training, believing it was all easy enough to manage. But little did I know, the real test was yet to come.
Race day arrived with a mix of excitement and nerves. With my gear, bib and shoes ready, I felt both prepared and uncertain. It’s natural to feel a bit anxious before a race — after all, it’s not something you do every day. I knew I was going into uncharted territory, but I kept telling myself it would be fine. As I stood at the starting line, those nerves turned into anticipation. Was I ready for this challenge? I wasn’t sure. But there was no turning back.

As the race started, my body seemed to be in a completely different mode. I wasn’t just running; I was pushing myself in ways I hadn’t before. The miles kept ticking by and with every step, I realized how unprepared I was. I hadn’t trained for the intensity that would hit me after just a few miles and I wasn’t sure how to pace myself. The discomfort was real and it was at that moment I knew: running wasn’t just about going out there and hoping for the best. I needed more strategy and preparation.
😅
Reflecting on that day, I understood a few key things. First, I realized that training wasn’t just about the physical effort, but about mental strength too. I had been relying on my past running experience, but without proper race-day preparation, I was setting myself up for disappointment. This is where jumping rope training can be so beneficial. To jump rope strengthens both the body and mind, helping improve cardiovascular endurance and focus. As I continued my journey, I learned to better listen to my body and recognize when to push myself and when to ease off. By focusing on balance, strength and proper pacing , I found I could run smarter, not harder.
